The Watches

Springwatch, Autumnwatch and Winterwatch are annual BBC television series which chart the fortunes of British wildlife during the changing of the seasons. The programmes are broadcast live from locations around the country in a primetime evening slot on BBC Two. One of BBC's largest British outside broadcast events, The Watches combine pre-recorded VTs with live sections and remote wildlife cameras to bring the best of British wildlife to audiences around the UK.

I have worked as an editor on various Watches over the years, both on location and remotely from home (during the first Covid lockdown), as well as from the BBC Broadcast House in Bristol. Each series has demanded a huge amount of teamwork and impeccable communication skills to enable the team to deliver quality content on very tight deadlines and often on short notice.

Springwatch 2020 presented its own unique challenges, as the whole workflow and format had to be reinvented and adapted incredibly fast due to the start of the Covid pandemic, but it resulted in one of the most-loved Watches, with unusually high viewership figures, and a BAFTA for Best Live Event!
